Tulare County's history dates back to 1770, and natives of the area take great pride in it. The city of Visalia is the oldest known township between Los Angeles and Stockton. The first Americans came to the valley after 1800. Kings County is located just 15 miles west of Visalia, and is also a leader in dairy and agricultural production. The County seat is Hanford. There is a great deal of history in this small town, too, and points of interest include The Bastille and original Kings County Courthouse. The Courthouse, which was the seat of Kings County Government from 1896 to 1979, has been placed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Lemoore, located 7 miles west of Hanford, is home to the Lemoore Naval Air Station and The Palace Indian Gaming Casino.
